My game saves at certain points but I have tried everything I can think of and looked at all the control options and I dont see any way to do a save of my game.I would like to be able to save at certain points particularly when I set out to explore and dont know if I will end up not getting to any shelters I can use for the night and getting to point of no return. I would like the game to go back to the point I would save so I can either try a different direction or make sure to take more food etc.so have had to start the game over everytime I wander too far and cant get back to a shelter or run out of water or food or freeze to death.becasue it saves at some point when I didnt know it but was already headed for disaster and thus cant go back to a better time and load.cant you make saves you can back up to and load from? So if you are exploring and there is no building and you have no place to sleep and you need to stop the game to go to bed or eat or go to work you lose everything you just did for the last couple of hours of exploration due to you have no place to go to sleep at? So far I have lost several games that lasted for a hour or two due to stopping to eat or whatever.and either come back and log on to my game either never saved at all as i was not far along or it saved way earlier and I lose anything good I found after I slept or left the building.so perma death might be a nice concept but I generally turn on a game for a couple hours and turn it off for a bit and so I am actaully going othave to find a place to enter a shelter or sleep to leave off and not lose content? This is annoying And if you have to quit suddenly due to something comes up I might not have time to find a shelter or a place to sleep. Originally posted by:It saves when you go indoors, sleep for alteast an hour, rest for atleast an hour, sprain a limb, burn yourself, poison yourself, get bit by wolves or bear, get frostbite, there are a few others. Want to save quick out in the back country, break a leg or sleep.

And yes you can scum save but this defeats the purpose of a permadeath game, hope this helps. What is scum save?

Ty for desribing some of the other ways of saving. It might defeat the purpose of permadeath but I dont want to lose my place just because I need to stop playing for the night or suddenly as someone comes over etc. Originally posted by:so if you are exploring and there is no building and you have no place to sleep and you need to stop the game to go to bed or eat or go to work you lose everything you just did for the last couple of hours of exploration due to you have no place to go to sleep at? Well, the game aim to be as realistic as it could be in many aspects. The perma-deaths along with autosaving occurring when you reach shelter, rest or happens to get injured (whatever how) serves this idea.In the game, just like in real life, if you were going to explore unknown territory, knowing that being caught at dusk with an rising blizzard is most likely lethal, you need to prepare yourself in case it happens. When planning to explore unknown areas, plan accordingly. Bring a bedroll and consider to bring clothes in order to make a snow shelter.

How

You can bring sticks also, but it is usually you can expect to gather 15 of them on the spot.Consider also to bring stuff that can help you starting a fire, like a book or accelerant. If you also use the 'pass time' button, which is the picture of the playing card, in the 'Fire' set on your wheel - accessed with your space bar. Though it will cost (at the very least) an hour, it will save your game there, just as the sleep button does. You can use that method of saving at any point in the game, so you can log off with the knowledge that when you log on again it will be exactly where you left off.If you play the game a lot you will become used to perma-death, which is not at all a bad thing if your character does die, as it gives you the chance to start all over again supplied with the knowledge of what you have learned in the previous game, which is not to make the same mistakes again.Personally, I do not mind permadeath in the least as I really enjoy starting fresh and love the early game. I just got the game, and the save thing is annoying as hell, I like the perma-death concept.

Idea in general, BUT, the game crashes often, and the random reloads, can leave you in a map, without a peace of critical gear. Over and over; it's starting to get annoying to have to go back to square one every time. And More so, with some of the weird programming (like you eat 4kg of fish and aren't full, and starving by dark).last night had a good game going. Phone rang, fell off a cliff ruined.Maybe so kind of option to have a couple key points saved. (im good with not being able to scum save. But man oh man, the games where you're managed to eat, sleep and have couple tools lost over a glitch or real life as stated before is annoying.I know this is an old thread. But I just got it a couple days ago.

The Long Dark Survival Mode Save Game

But I just got it a couple days ago.You can save in game where all it will cost you is an hour. Hit space bar for radial menu - select the fire - select the deck of cards and click on it - you will be able to choose to 'pass time' the minimum is 1 hour. Select it and the game will save at this point.

You can do this at any time and any place in the game, but because of the hour you need to make sure it's a safe place. When you log back into the game, if you select 'RESUME' you will be back where you selected 'Pass Time' - hope this is understandable and that it helps. Good luck!:).
